Welcome to the Nether Park Estate, Burghfield
Located in rural Royal Berkshire, Nether Park is steeped in history and surrounded by beautiful gardens, made famous by the late Esther Merton and enjoyed from 1961 by members of the public.
A member of the prestigious “Historic Houses of Britain”, Nether Park House is a magnificent Grade II* listed Georgian mansion with an illustrious history as well as benefitting from extensive modernisations across the estate and outbuildings. Originally the site of Nether Court, built for Queen Emma of Normandy, who married King Aethelred of England (parents of Edward the Confessor). Through her subsequent marriage to King Cnut the Great, she was Queen of England, Denmark & Norway.
The current house is believed to date back from the 16th Century with further 18th Century alterations and a 20th century addition on the north western side of the property.
The extraordinary Cedar of Lebanon on the front lawn is believed to be one of the first three brought to Great Britain and arguably the finest example in the country.
Mrs Merton’s celebrated gardens have been undergoing a comprehensive restoration by some of the UK’s leading horticulturalists and Nether Park is open for members of the public to enjoy throughout the year.
The Property is a working estate which is also available for event hire as well as film and photographic shoots.
